Disclaimer

We require anyone involved in an FR event, be they crew, players or anything else, to sign our disclaimer. You will be given a copy of this to sign when you first come to an event. The disclaimer is not an attempt to trick anyonem and has no 'dark motives', but is intended to make sure that everyone knows what they are getting into and lays out some ground rules for your behaviour on the event.

I, the undersigned, confirm that:

  1. I am at least 18 years of age.
  1. I understand that taking part in a Frail Realities event involves some risk of harm to my person and that I participate in the event at my own risk. Such potential risks include, but are not limited to:
    1. injury arising as a result of being struck with specially constructed padded weapons (such as latex weapons, gaffer weapons, ‘boffer sticks’, padded crossbow bolts or arrows);
    1. dangers caused by the physical environment of the event, including but not only uneven floors, sudden drops, and badly lit areas.
    1. dangers caused by the use of candles, lanterns and other flames, which may be used as part of the event.

  1. I understand that striking another participant with any part of my body, “body charging”, grappling and similar activities are strictly forbidden and agree that I will not do any of these things. Where the game rules require that I ‘strike’ another person with any part of my body then this will only be done with my hands and only a light touch will be used.
  1. I undertake
    1. to act at all times to ensure my own safety and that of those around me, to the best of my ability;
    1. when using any form of padded weapons to pull my blows to ensure in so far as is possible the safety of the person I have struck;
    1. not to, under any circumstances, strike other people with a padded weapon with full force;
    1. not to aim any weapon blow above the shoulder of a person I am striking.
  1. I understand that when the game rules require some action that might put me in danger – including but not only being carried by or carrying another player, being required to shut my eyes,  it is not intended that I abide by the game rules should this cause or exacerbate a risk to my own safety or those of the people around me (thus, in an emergency, or if I believe someone to be injured or likely to become so, I will ignore the game rules to try and prevent danger to myself or others)
  1. Should I become aware of any person who is acting in any way that might endanger another person or who is acting in contravention of this document I will make a referee aware of this immediately.
  1. Should any dispute arise during the course of an event I undertake to resolve this in a calm and reasonable manner.
  1. I understand that in the event of anything occurring that might endanger someone a call of ‘safety’ will be made. I undertake to make such a call should it be required and, should such a call be made I will stop what I am doing and stand still unless I must act in some way to preserve my safety or that of others.
  1. I understand that bookings are only confirmed when paid for in full. Refunds are granted only in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the organiser.  However, if an event for which I have paid is cancelled or significantly and materially altered, then I am entitled to a full refund.
  1. I accept that, should I be unable to continue playing for any reason, I will not be given a refund, though the organisers are required to make every reasonable effort to ensure that I can continue playing.
  1. If a referee asks me to leave the event then I shall depart from the site quickly and quietly.  Reasons for asking a person to leave include, but are not limited to -  participating in any illegal activity, acting in such a way to endanger others, acting in an antisocial manner that is likely to spoil the enjoyment of others; causing damage to the site, or acting in such a way likely to bring the good reputation of the club into disrepute.
  1. I accept that the organisers and referees of the event I take part in are in charge, and I will comply with any reasonable request they make of me.
  1. I am required to make sure I am familiar with the rules peculiar to the site that is being used on any particular event, and that I will do so, and will abide by any such rules.
  1. I will personally check that any weapon I am using is safe for the purposes of live roleplay combat, and will in addition ensure that every such weapon has been checked and confirmed as safe by a referee and periodically check to make sure it has remained safe during the event.
  1. I will help tidy the site used after an event, to assist in returning it to the state in which it was found, and will not leave that site until such time as a referee says it is permissible.
  1. I will be responsible for and pay for any damage that I cause, whether this be to the site or to other participants’ or the organisers possessions unless such damage arises from the ‘normal wear and tear’ of live role playing.
  1. I will not drink alcohol to such an extent as would cause me to become intoxicated during an event, unless a referee indicates that it will safe to do so.
  1. I will not engage in any illegal activities during an event or whilst on site.
